For 22 years, I served as a pastor in the same local church. I started my ministry career as a Youth Pastor and spent the last 10 years as the Executive Pastor at the same, multisite church in Phoenix, AZ. During my time as the XP, I refined the operations and procedures of a 75-year-old church that had many gaps in culture and exposures. This did not come without pain and missteps along the way. The ministry schedule I managed had a portfolio of rented facilities, owned property, vehicle fleets (including a 56-passenger charter bus), a regional camp and a church association. Facilities, Finance, Risk Prevention and HR encompassed my day-to-day schedule. I understand all to well that the operations of the church is only known if it’s not done well. For those privileged to be in this space, the biggest compliment we can get is to go unnoticed.

EXHIBITOR SPOTLIGHT: Sexual Abuse Prevention and Response

Many organizations make use of background checks to help ensure their employees and volunteers are fit to serve children and youth. While background checks are helpful, RRM Insurance Services recommends that they not serve as the sole means of applicant screening. The solution? A comprehensive system that meets legal standards of care and reduces the risk of sexual abuse through preventative measures tailored to your organization’s unique needs. We have a toolbelt of programs and partners to help you take proactive steps in reducing the risk of child sexual abuse.

Takeaways include:

– Prevention: Know the grooming process, tools for safer events and activities, and what to look for

– Take Action: In the event of suspected or known sexual abuse, what is the organization’s responsibility?
