In 2017 Orchard Hill Church of Pittsburgh embarked on a $3.7M renovation of a 20+ year old main worship center/auditorium. The project required a total gut of the room to implement updated aesthetics, seating, and comprehensive audio/video technology enhancements including L-ISA Studio 3D immersive audio arrays from L-Acoustics. The project also included the addition of ceiling clouds that were constructed to lower the 2-story ceiling and aid in creating a more intimate worship experience.

“The way we worship in our services today as compared to 20 years ago has changed dramatically. The space was originally designed to handle high-level live performance in a ‘seeker sensitive’ concert style setting. One of our primary goals was to transform the room into an environment where worshipers could hear the person next to them and be drawn into an all-encompassing experience of sight and sound, while not being overwhelmed or separated by the technology and/or the worship leaders and musicians on the platform” – John Cornelius, Director of Technology, OHC.

Through 4 years of planning, starts and stops, a global pandemic during the construction phase, as well as multiple architects, contractors and integrators, OHC finally saw their goals realized with the opening of the new worship center for Christmas services in 2020.

In this session we will cover:

  • How to plan for, fund, and survive an overdue upgrade to your worship facility that includes a focus on Online and Virtual Church
  • Overflow Planning
  • Partners and Integrators
  • OHC’s Broadcast Streaming Strategy Shift
  • Funding the Project and Lessons Learned
